Matisyahu @ Toad's Place Words and photos by Stacey McCarthy ©2011 The streets surrounding Toad’s Place were crowded with fans on their way to see Matisyahu. Drivers circled the block trying to find an empty parking space, hoping that the “Full Lot” sign would be turned off this time around. Inside Toad’s , the sold out show was insanely hot and crowded.
Once Matisyahu took the stage, the crowd of mostly 20 something’s, began to dance and sway. This was the moment they were waiting for and Matisyahu did not disappoint.
Dropkick Murphys @Mohegan Sun Arena in CT and Tsongas Arena in Lowell, MA. Words and photos by Stacey McCarthy ©2011
Going to a Dropkick Murphy's concert is so much more than just watching a show. It's like an all inclusive vacation, with a cash bar. People come from all over the world to see the shows, they hang out in pubs and bars beforehand chanting, "Let's go, Murphys!" By the time they're on their second pint, they are sharing stories with strangers about past shows that they've seen. Mohegan Sun was sold out. I talked to several people in the crowd and about 50 percent of them were seeing DKM for the first time.
The band played some classics like "Captain Kelly's Kitchen", "Spicy McHaggis", "Johnny I Hardly Knew Ya", "The Fields of Athenry"and "Citizen C.I.A." mixed in with songs off of their new album, Going out in Style. Ken Casey talked about some of the new songs as they were being played. He dedicated "Peg O' My Heart" to his grandmother and "Take em' Down" to the workers in Wisconsin. The Murphy's tweaked the end of the show, due to the 10,000 fans and a broken barricade. Instead of letting the girls on stage during "Kiss Me, I'm Sh%tfaced", Casey went out into the crowd.
Tsongas Arena had the largest crowd that I have ever seen for a Murphys show. Every seat was full and there must have been 7,000 people on the floor. Because I was sitting in a seat, I had a bird's eye view of the chaos on the floor. Several mosh pits erupted and 10 to 20 people were crowd surfing at any given time.
They opened with "Hang em' High" off the new album. Al Barr immediately went into the crowd with his mic as fans sang along.
Micky Ward came out before DKM sang "The Warrior's Code". The crowd got to hear "The Dirty Glass" thanks to Nora Parkington of the Parkington Sisters. Nora got the crowd on their feet jumping and singing the chorus, "Darcy, Darcy darling dear, You left me dying, crying there, In whiskey, gin, and pints of beer, I fell for you my darling dear!" Their new album had just been out for a week and most of the crowd new all the words to the new single, "Going Out in Style".
Casey went out into the crowd for "Kiss Me I'm Shitfaced" but couldn't stop the guys from getting on the stage for "Skinhead on the MBTA" and "Boys on the Docks".
If you missed the St. Patrick's Day shows, you can check them out during their summer tour.

Burn Halo @The Webster Theatre! Burn Halo made a trip back to Connecticut on June 19th and Connecticut gave Burn Halo an enthusiastic welcome!
During an interview a few weeks ago, lead singer, James Hart, promised they would play longer than they did when they were openers for Korn. James delivered on his promise and Burn Halo played for a solid 40 minute set!
Lead guitarist, Joey Roxx and bassist, Aaron Baylor wowed the crowd with their playing and on stage antics.
Each member got their time in the spotlight. Drummer, Tim Russell, stood up from behind the drum kit to fire up the fans!
Rhythm guitarist, Allen Wheeler, seemed a little bit shy compared to the rest of the band.
Several people in the crowd commented that James reminded them of Axel Rose.
Be sure to check out Burn Halo on their MySpace and go out to see them when they rock through your town! Jul 21 2009

Burn Halo @The Chevrolet Theatre! Wallingford, Connecticut didn’t know what hit it as Burn Halo took the stage on May 22nd. Lines like, “I’ve been waiting for my next mistake” from Burn Halo’s song “Save Me” and “Dirty little girl don’t care about her reputation” from their hit single “Dirty Little Girl” set the tone for Burn Halo’s set at the Chevrolet Theatre. Front man, James Hart, expertly worked the crowd.
When I asked James about his stage presence during a phone interview, he attributed it to hard work, confidence and the experience that he gained as the front man for Eighteen Visions.
One of the many, many bras thrown on stage
After their set, James was out front with the fans. “you need to take control of the situation… what I can do on my end to make sure it (the album) is successful is go out and shake hands with people, make them life long fans and put the record in their hands.” Connecticut fans will have another opportunity to check out Burn Halo on Friday, June 19th at The Webster Theatre in Hartford. They are co-headlining with Halestorm. Tickets are only $10.69 and available through this link: Burn Halo @ The Webster
Music as a Weapon Tour IV Words and photos by Stacey McCarthy Music as a Weapon Tour IV ravaged it's way through Bridgeport on April 21st. The doors opened a 6pm and the crowds poured in, much like the rain outside. Due to the bad weather, the tattoo convention and second stage was cancelled. Lacuna Coil opened the show with an amazing but entirely too short set.
All eyes were on were on vocalist, Cristina Scabbia as she entered the stage. Lacuna Coil's set included their new single, "Spellbound" off of their new album, Shallow Life. "Spellbound" showcases the talent of vocalist, Andrea Ferro in addition to Scabbia's beautiful harmonies in the chorus. Bassist, Marco Coti Zelati. More photos of Lacuna Coil here Katy Perry performed a "puurfect" set to a sold out crowd at The Fillmore Irving Plaza in NYC on April 6th.
Click on the photo to view a slideshow! Dropkick Murphys "All Roads Lead to Boston Tour!" Words and photos by Stacey McCarthy After seeing a band play 10 times in three years, you would think that the band would lose some of their appeal. That's not the case with the Dropkick Murphys. I have seen them play in a sports bar in Long Island, a baseball field in Lowell Mass and arenas with a 10,000 person capacity and they deliver every time. This past week, I saw them in Hartford at The Webster Theatre and in Boston at the House of Blues.
Al Barr sounding better than ever at The Webster.
Take Action Tour!
We arrived at The Webster to see this year’s Take Action Tour only to find the parking lot and surrounding streets overflowing with cars. We had to park way down the street at the Webster’s other parking lot behind a church. Once we entered The Webster, I realized that the parking was the easy part. Now I had to make my way through the hundreds of fans lined up to purchase merch and meet the bands. By the time I made my way to the barricade, I had completely missed the first two bands, Every Avenue and Anarbor, which was extremely disappointing because I had never seen them and was really looking forward to it. I think that every fourteen to seventeen year old in Connecticut was at the Webster that night. I had a few minutes to set up my cameras as Meg and Dia were doing their sound check. They performed a beautiful cover of Blind Melon’s “No Rain”.
Pop Evil It was barely 20 degrees outside, but inside The Webster Theatre, Michigan rockers, Pop Evil were steaming up the stage.
Before I could hear the first note of "Breathe" I could smell a hint of incense burning. It was coming from in front of Pop Evil's DJ booth.
Lead vocalist, Leigh Kakaty, fires up the crowd during "3 Seconds to Freedom".
By the end of their set he was sans the coat and scarf.
Drummer, Dylan Allison, during "Ready or Not". Judging by the crowds reaction, they were ready.
Guitarist, Tony Greve.
Bassist, Matt DiRito.
Pop Evil pulled out all of their hits, including "100 in a 55" and ended the night with "Hero".
Hatebreed @ The Webster Theatre! Words by Stacey McCarthy Photos by Stacey McCarthy and Charles ©2008 As diehard as they come is the perfect phrase to describe the hundreds of fans that came out to party and see Hatebreed perform at The Webster Theatre on September 12th.
There is an instantaneous surge of energy the moment Jamey Jasta enters the stage.
Check out Hatebreed on MySpace and tell them they have to play their annual year end show at Toad's Place. Kingdom of Sorrow, Jasta's other band, will be playing at Toad's Place on October 9th opening up for Gwar. Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival! Photos and words by Stacey McCarthy The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival (try saying that after one too many beers) at The New England Dodge Music Center on August 16th had everything a music festival should: the music was loud and there was plenty of it, the beer was cold and there was plenty of that as well, and there were piles and piles of merch on the various booths inside and outside the venue.
Brian Fair of Shadows Fall watched Machine Head's set
Five Finger Death Punch delivered an awesome performance.
I almost missed DragonForce and had to beg my way to the barricade where security let me up front to take pics.
Disturbed puts on an amazing show each time I see them.
This was my first time seeing Corey Taylor performing in Slipknot.
The Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival lived up to and surpassed all of my expectations.
Metal Master's Tour!
Almost 8,000 people crowded into the Mohegan Sun Arena on August 15th to see the Metal Master's Tour featuring: Judas Priest, Heaven and Hell, and Testament. Judas Priest
Rob Halford had the crowd worked into a frenzy by the time he entered the stage with his Harley.
Heaven and Hell Teenagers and 50 years old stood side by side singing along with Ronnie James Dio.
Testament Testament came out loud and fast and ripped through their set.
