MySpace Secret Show!    Jason Mraz

Photos and words by Stacey McCarthy

I felt a twinge of guilt as we passed the lengthy line of people not getting into the MySpace Secret Show at The Webster Underground featuring Jason Mraz.  Only the first 200 lucky fans were permitted to enter.

Huey Lewis

and the News!

Review and pics from MGM Grand Theater at Foxwoods!

Words and photos ©Stacey McCarthy 2008

"We're not here for a long time. We're here for a good time" is the song title that sums up Huey Lewis and the News' set at the brand new MGM Grand Theater.  It didn't take long before a large crowd of fans swarmed the front of the stage, singing, dancing, and reaching up to touch the hand of Huey Lewis.

Huey warmed up the crowd with, "Heart of Rock and Roll" and then did an excellent job of performing some of the bands new songs.  My favorite was "Hurry Back Baby", a bluesy song reminiscent of the late Stevie Ray Vaughn's work.

About mid-way through, the band sang a couple of songs  a cappella.

The acoustics in the new MGM Grand Theater were an incredible treat that allowed the talents of the horn and sax section to shine.

Fans were on their feet for several minutes, demanding an encore.  The band obliged by coming out with "Back in Time", "Do You Believe in Love", and "Workin' for a Livin'."

Bryan Adam's

Acoustic Tour!

It was difficult to make my way to the stage on Monday night at Toad’s Place.  The floor was full of Bryan Adams' fans that had been waiting over two hours for the acoustic set to begin.  I was fortunate that a very nice lady named Diane held my spot for me while I got my camera set up.

The stage lighting was very well designed.  Several light stands held soft peach color lights (very flattering to skin tones) and the velvety back drop's color alternated throughout the night from red to blue and then purple.

Throughout the night, fans could be heard singing along to all of their favorite songs including: "I’d Thought I’d Seen Everything", "When You Love Someone", "Summer of 69", "Heaven", and "Cut's Like a Knife".  Towards the end, Bryan's friend, Mickey, joined in on drums for a couple of songs.  The show closed with "Straight From the Heart".

Def Leppard @Mohegan Sun!

Def Leppard hit the stage running at the sold out 10,000 seat, Mohegan Sun Arena.  At first, I was surprised that they started with the ever popular "Rocket", "Animal", and "Let’s Get Rocked".  As the songs continued throughout their set, I realized that they had enough hits to fill an entire set and still leave the audience wanting more.

The show gained momentum and energy during the 90 minute set.  The talents of: guitarists',  Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell, bassist, Rick Savage, and drummer, Rick Allen were showcased all through the night.  Joe Elliot proved he still has the chops, energy, and spirit of the teenager he was when the band started in 1977.

I especially enjoyed the collage of  band photos that flashed on the screen during "Photograph".  By the time they played, "Pour Some Sugar on Me", almost the entire audience was on their feet singing along.

"…it's better to burn out,…than to fade away." Def Leppard didn’t burn out as they ended the night with "Rock of Ages", they exploded, and the fans screamed for more.
